Recently in class we have been discussing Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights movement and what not...here are the memorable quotes.
(on the bus boycotts) "...and some of the buses got destroyed by fire!"
"The Black Panther Party was like...violent."
(on laws) "So, what you're saying is, how the law is written affects how people behave? So if our laws were written differently we would behave differently?...." (that little bit of logic went on for awhile, but I couldn't keep up with her to write it all down)(that's circular reasoning kittens)
Then we changed topic to the PATRIOT Act and terrorism and that sort of thing. Again, she is brilliant on this topic.
"The government is afraid of EVERYONE!"
"I think the government is starting to be afraid of its own citizens. They need to take a step back and say 'not everyone we meet is going to commit an act of terror'."
(then she told this story) "When we used to go to the airport, we had to get our bags checked and then wait around until they said it was ok and we could go. We're supposed to feel like we're more in control...but I think its gotten a little lax."
THEN this other crazy girl (we will refer to her as 'girl who constantly rocks in her seat'...no joke) had this to add to the discussion.
(on the government investigating what books people check out) "...if there is a terrorist attack, only people who check out thest book are suspects? NOOOOOO!"
What a day it was in Philosophy today...
